Did Your Indoor Cat Get Out?

Borrow a Cellular Night-Vision Camera for 7 Days

A missing indoor cat may still be very close to home while hiding silently and moving only after the neighborhood becomes quiet.

KC Pet Search & Rescue offers approved Kansas City-area families a cellular night-vision motion camera for up to seven days with no camera rental charge.

A $100 refundable equipment security deposit is required before pickup. The full $100 is refunded after the camera and all provided accessories are returned by the agreed date in working condition.

Limited availability. Local pickup and return are required. A $100 refundable equipment security deposit applies.

Seven-Day Loan

Use the camera for an approved seven-day period.

Cellular Night Vision

Receive motion-triggered images without relying on the homeowner's Wi-Fi.

Local Pickup

Pickup must be coordinated with KC Pet Search & Rescue.

Refundable Deposit

The full $100 deposit is refunded after proper and timely equipment return.

Cameras are limited and are provided only after the request has been reviewed and pickup availability has been confirmed.

Why a Camera Can Help Locate a Missing Cat

Escaped indoor cats often remain nearby while hiding underneath decks, porches, sheds, bushes, vehicles, crawlspaces, foundations, garages, and other concealed areas.

  • Confirm whether the missing cat is returning
  • Identify the time the cat is moving
  • Detect activity after dark
  • Determine whether food is being eaten by the missing cat or wildlife
  • Improve feeding-station placement
  • Improve humane-trap placement
  • Reduce random searching and guessing
  • Provide useful information for the next recovery step
The camera is a monitoring tool. It cannot guarantee a sighting or recovery.

Optional. Your name, contact details and exact location are never shown.
    What am I authorizing?

    What am I authorizing?

Cross-platform transfer. Choosing "Yes" authorizes KC Pet Search & Rescue to securely send your pet's report and photographs to KC AI Pet Match (KCAIPetMatch.com), a separate lost-and-found pet platform operated alongside KC Pet Search & Rescue. Choosing "No" means nothing is sent, and your KC Pet Search & Rescue report is submitted and handled exactly as it would be otherwise.

Private KCAI case creation. A private case is created on KC AI Pet Match. Private means it is not listed publicly, not searchable by the public, and not visible on the public map. It exists so your pet can be compared against other records.

AI-assisted comparison. Your pet's approved photographs and description are compared automatically against authorized lost, found and shelter records. This comparison suggests possible matches only.

Photograph processing. Submitted photographs are copied, checked, stripped of embedded metadata (including any GPS coordinates saved by your camera or phone), and resized for display. The original file is retained privately and is not published.

Authorized shelter and animal-welfare comparison. Your approved pet information may be compared against records supplied by participating shelters and animal-welfare organizations that have their own authorization in place. Your contact information is never shared with them.

Public publication is a separate decision. Authorizing transfer does not publish anything. A public Pet Report is only created if you separately authorize it, and only after every privacy, safety and eligibility check passes. You can authorize transfer and decline publication, and your case will remain private.

Human confirmation is required. AI may identify possible matches. It cannot and does not confirm your pet's identity or ownership. Every possible match is reviewed by a person, and no identification is treated as final without human confirmation.

What is never shown publicly. Your name, email address, telephone number, exact street address and exact coordinates are never displayed publicly under any setting. Where a location is shown, it is a deliberately generalized area, never your exact position.

Privacy, retention, removal and revocation. Your information is retained only while it is needed for the purposes above. You may withdraw this authorization at any time; withdrawal stops further transfer, removes public listing eligibility, and is recorded. Removal of an existing KC AI Pet Match case can be requested at any time. Withdrawing does not affect the help you receive from KC Pet Search & Rescue.

A Camera Can Confirm Activity—But Recovery May Require More

Identifying the cat on camera is often only the beginning.

    • A cat may visit only during a narrow overnight window
    • Wildlife may interfere with the feeding station
    • The cat may avoid an improperly placed trap
    • The camera may need to be repositioned
    • The cat may be hiding nearby without approaching the station
    • Multiple cats may be visiting the location
    • A confirmed sighting may require a coordinated trapping strategy
KC Pet Search & Rescue can help move the case from guessing to a structured recovery plan.

Jay with Koshka's family after her safe recovery in Independence, Missouri

Koshka pushed out a window screen and escaped from her family's Independence, Missouri home. Ordinary daytime searching didn't turn up anything, so the team built a plan around ground thermal equipment, a handheld thermal scope, and a thermal drone once darkness made temperature contrast more useful — with Koshka's family involved throughout.

She was located and safely brought inside within two hours of the team's arrival. Watch the full recovery to see how KC Pet Search & Rescue approaches a missing-cat case with more than random searching.
