A joint-mission invitation
KC Pet Search & Rescue + KC Dog Trappers
Working together to bring missing dogs home and help strays reach safety.
A personal thank-you
I want to thank the KC Dog Trappers for the kindness you have shown Richard and me as we enter a parallel space with the same goals: bringing dogs home and helping those without a home reach safety.
As we grow and evolve, we continually learn. Your patience, grace, and willingness to share your experience have helped make that possible.
We have not had the chance to work with everyone yet, but we hope we will. We want you to see firsthand that, while we are a paid service, we truly care about the dogs, cats, and owners we serve.
Some of you know we have worked alongside Karen and Crystal, with a few trips to see Crista. Those experiences have allowed us to get to know them and see the dedication they bring to the work that calls them.
What you do is respected and admirable. Richard and I want to support it through a structured program that makes KCPSR’s technology available at no cost during times of need.
Below is what we have agreed to contribute as we build a stronger relationship with your team.
What we are offering
Three commitments, written down so there is nothing to wonder about. Each one is meant to put our equipment behind the work you are already doing.
Benefit 01
We are offering each KC Dog Trapper one no-cost drone search flight during each of these calendar periods:
The flight can support your trapping efforts, help locate a dog, or assist with recovery when a drone search is appropriate.
Benefit 02
In many cases, you already have sightings, an established search area, or a better understanding of where a dog is spending time than an owner whose dog disappeared 30 minutes ago.
That groundwork can allow us to conduct a shorter, more focused search. When it does, we want the pricing to reflect the work involved.
We want to offer a reduced-rate search option for those situations, with the scope and price discussed before booking.
Benefit 03
You have two discount codes in your own name. The owner uses one when they book, it takes money off their bill, and it credits the job to you automatically.
FirstName25 takes 25% off eligible trapping-only services and earns you 5 points. It cannot be used on a full recovery, and it requires you to be involved in the job.
FirstName10 takes $10 off eligible services and earns you 10 points.
Points are recorded when the job is paid for and are earned once it is completed. Every 50 points earns one additional no-cost search flight, on top of your included program flights, and whatever is left over carries forward toward the next one.
Your codes, your points and your flights are all in My Points—there is nothing for you to submit.
Contact Jay or Richard to discuss the mission, timing, and how a drone search can support your recovery plan.
Meet Richard
KC Pet Search & Rescue is new. But if you get to know us, you will find that we are ambitious—and serious about the people and pets we help.
Richard is newly retired from the auto industry, where he developed a strong sense of customer service. I thought I understood customer communication until I watched Richard do what comes naturally to him: care about the pets and the people involved.
Like many of you, he is relentless when it comes to bringing pets home. I could not have asked for a better partner, and I believe you will understand exactly what I mean when you meet him.
Richard is working toward his FAA Part 107 remote pilot certification, with a goal of October 2026. His drone is ready to go. Once he is certified, we plan to conduct missions together with two drones for a few months as he gains experience with both flying and the particular demands of searching for missing pets.
I still travel throughout the country for work. Richard is here locally to oversee operations while I am away and help keep our recovery efforts moving.
To be clear: the Part 107 certification is a goal Richard is working toward, not a credential he holds yet, and the two-drone period is a short stretch of training missions—not a standing feature of every search.
Meet Jay · why I am building this
I want to share a little about my background, but what matters most is how that background shapes my goals for KC Pet Search & Rescue.
I am a regional manager and have worked with law enforcement for the past 21 years. I am a certified radar and lidar instructor for law enforcement, and for the past eight years my work has included automated speed enforcement, red-light enforcement, and license plate recognition cameras.
Earlier in my career, I performed government fire inspections in Washington, D.C., and served as production manager for a supercomputer ranked sixth in the world at the time. I played a year of college football before joining the Marines, where I served as a training NCO.
I share that because I want you to understand the person behind this business and the way I approach a challenge.
My ambition goes well beyond operating a drone. I am a business owner with a passion for developing solutions and strategies that can advance pet recovery. I want to understand what works, identify where better tools can help, and build systems that support the people doing the work.
This has become much more than a side business to me. I am investing deeply in our online presence, our recovery capabilities, and the technology behind our operations.
My goal is to help improve how animal recovery is done across the country. I believe the technology and resources exist to make meaningful progress, especially when we combine them with the experience and dedication of the recovery community.
That begins with listening, learning, and working together.
One example of what we are building
Our Command Center is one example of the tools I am developing to support recovery work. If you have a chance, take a look. It offers a glimpse of where we are headed and what I hope to contribute to this industry through continued development.
For enrolled trappers
Everything above, tracked in one place — so you never have to ask us where a flight stands or how many you have left.
You only see your own missions. The dashboard uses the same Command Center sign-in as the rest of the site — no second password and no extra account. Accounts are set up by hand: talk to Jay or Richard and they will enable yours.
