On 4/2026 KC Dog Trappers had several people reach out about a young Tri-Color German Sheperd running along a busy 2 lane road. The dog was seen going in and out of the woods on both East & West side. Trapper Crystal went back through social media pages looking for other sightings. She was able to find posts back to 4/16. Given the large area of woods and no clear travel pattern Crystal reached out to KC Pet Search & Rescue to do a scan of the area. Initially locating the dog wasn’t an easy task with all the thick coverage. Thankfully there was a sighting 5 minutes before the drone went up. Once found on Raytown Rd it was easy to track movements. This dog had us on the edge of our seats as we watched speeding cars on a dark street come inches from hitting him. Crystal and Aimee relocated the trap and while chumming the area the GSD was on high alert and watching from the opposite side of the street. Having some street smarts, he walked North and crossed the road where there was some lighting. A car attempted to stop and help which sent him running into the woods and straight for the trap. Unfortunately, he didn’t spend much time there before darting off into the woods and following the creek system into various yards. The trap remand live for 2 days and he had not returned. Then Crystal came across a post on Nextdoor of him in a yard. After talking with the homeowner she learned he had been coming around for several days and spending hours at a time running circles around their tree so much that he created his own racetrack. While relocating the trap the dog had ran off. Big storms moved in that evening, but the trap remained live. Once the storms passed the dog made an appearance. Trapper Crystal gave him a warm place to stay for the night and got lots of love and affection from the dog now known as Dexter. What makes this story more intriguing is that on 3/28/26 Crystal had caught another young German Sheperd in the same area. What are the chances that these 2 were siblings. On 4/24/26 Dexter and Charlie got to meet each other. Personalities were an exact match, and Charlie was extremely excited to see Dexter. Both dogs will be available for adoption through the City of Raytown Animal Control.
