Help Bring More Missing Pets Home

KC Pet Search & Rescue is building a community of recovery families, pet advocates, volunteers, creators, local businesses, and Kansas City neighbors who believe missing pets deserve a coordinated path home.

You do not need a drone, specialized equipment, or field experience to make a difference.

Is your pet missing right now? This is not an emergency form. Call 913-915-2800 or start with lost dog recovery or lost cat recovery.

Two Ways to Join Right Now

These are the two KC Pet Search & Rescue Community programs that are built, running, and accepting founding members today. Each has its own page, its own short interest form, and clear instructions.

In person · Kansas City metro

KCPSR Community Event Crew

Help represent the mission at adoption events, pet festivals, community fairs, and preparedness workshops across the metro.

  • Welcome visitors and start conversations at the booth
  • Play real recovery videos and hand out approved materials
  • Help with setup, teardown, and keeping the booth organized
  • Training, talking points, and a defined assignment provided

From your phone · anywhere

KCPSR Digital Outreach Team

Help lost-pet information travel farther across Kansas City by sharing approved alerts, updates, and recovery resources.

  • Share approved missing-pet alerts into relevant local groups
  • Pass along case updates — and stop when instructed
  • Point missing-pet families to professional recovery help
  • No large following needed and no fixed schedule

Joining either team does not create employment, payment, a guaranteed assignment, or authority to represent KC Pet Search & Rescue outside approved activities. Not sure yet? The general Community signup below keeps you in the loop as new opportunities open.

More Than a Completed Search

A relationship with KC Pet Search & Rescue does not have to end the day a pet comes home.

Every recovery creates a story, a set of hard-earned lessons, and people who understand exactly what another missing-pet family is going through at two in the morning. That knowledge is genuinely useful, and right now most of it disappears once the search is over.

The KC Pet Search & Rescue Community is being built to give those people a place to stay connected, support the next family, share what worked, and help the mission reach further across the Kansas City metro.

When your pet comes home, your story may help bring the next one home.

Future Community Opportunities

These are directions we intend to grow the KC Pet Search & Rescue Community. They are ideas in development, not programs you can join today.

None of the roles below currently exists as an operating program. There is no signup, no schedule, no assignment, and no waiting list attached to any of them. They are listed so you can tell us what interests you through the general Community signup.

Looking for something you can actually do today? Digital sharing now lives in the Digital Outreach Team, and in-person help lives in the Community Event Crew. Both are open above.

Recovery Story Sharing

For former clients and families whose pets have come home.

  • Share your recovery story in your own words
  • Encourage families still searching
  • Provide photos or video from your own search
  • Take part in future reunion gatherings

There is no story-submission form yet. For now, tell us you are interested through the Community signup below and we will contact you when one exists.

Content Creators

For editors, photographers, designers, and writers.

  • Video editing
  • Photography
  • Graphic design
  • Writing recovery stories
  • Short social clips

Not yet an operating program. No assignments, briefs, or deadlines exist today.

Field Support

Limited, approval-based, and never automatic.

  • Flyer distribution
  • Equipment transport
  • Approved observation support
  • Future supervised ride-along opportunities

Field participation and ride-along opportunities are not automatically available and are not offered on request. A formal field volunteer program does not exist yet. Any future field role may require approval, screening, waivers, safety requirements, confidentiality rules, and suitability for that specific mission.

Business and Community Partners

For local businesses, rescues, shelters, and organizations.

  • Sponsorships
  • Printing
  • Event space
  • Pet supplies and equipment support
  • Community promotion

No partner program, discount scheme, or sponsorship tier has been published yet.

General Supporters

For everyone who simply believes in the mission.

  • Follow the mission
  • Share KC Pet Search & Rescue with neighbors
  • Attend future community events
  • Wear and represent the gear
  • Refer families who need help

This one you can do today — it just does not require a signup.

Selecting an area of interest does not create a volunteer assignment, guarantee placement, or authorize anyone to represent KC Pet Search & Rescue. Some future roles will require screening, training, waivers, confidentiality agreements, safety approval, mission-specific authorization, and FAA certification where drone operation is involved. Community members are never emergency responders. Already know a family who needs help? Point them to the Kansas City Emergency Pet Recovery Hub.

What This Community Will Become

Here is the honest picture. The KC Pet Search & Rescue Community is at the very beginning. Below is what we intend to build, not a description of what already exists.

Planned — in development
  • A place to share recovery stories
  • Volunteer and supporter opportunities
  • Community education on lost-pet behavior
  • Behind-the-scenes recovery content
  • Volunteer and partner spotlights
  • Recovery-family features
  • Local events across the metro
  • Preparedness workshops
  • Community meetups
  • Supporter merchandise and gear drops
  • A future annual gathering
  • A future digital community space
We are building this community in stages. Early members will help shape what it becomes.

There is no forum, private Facebook group, membership program, or annual event at this time. When any of these launch, the people on the interest list hear about it first.

Your Story Can Help the Next Family

KC Pet Search & Rescue wants former clients and recovered-pet families to share what actually happened during their search.

A recovery story can give another family hope, help them avoid costly mistakes, and show them that a missing pet is not automatically gone forever. The families who are three days into a search read those stories at hours when nobody else is awake.

A dedicated recovery-story submission form is being developed. Until it launches, you can share your story through the community interest form below or by contacting KC Pet Search & Rescue directly — either way it reaches the same place.

KC Pet Search & Rescue Community Day

Celebrating the pets brought home — and building the community that will help the next one.

Community Day is an idea we are working toward, not a scheduled event. There is no date, location, sponsor, or registration yet. If enough of the community wants it, here is what a first gathering could include:

  • Recovered-pet reunions
  • Family and pet photographs
  • Drone demonstrations
  • Thermal-camera demonstrations
  • Cellular trail-camera demonstrations
  • Lost-pet preparedness education
  • Microchip scanning
  • Volunteer recognition
  • Community partner booths
  • Local pet-related vendors
  • Recovery stories told in person
  • Family-friendly activities and gear

No date, venue, sponsor, or attendance has been set, and nothing here is a commitment to hold the event. Interest from the community is what decides whether it happens.

Wear It, Represent It, Support It

A neighbor who recognizes the KC Pet Search & Rescue logo is a neighbor who knows help exists. Branded gear is available now in the KC Pet Search & Rescue store.

Community-Edition Gear Is Still Being Developed

The items above carry the standard KC Pet Search & Rescue logo. A dedicated community and supporter collection — designed around the community itself rather than the business logo — is being developed. Phrases under consideration include:

Community apparel and supporter gear are being developed. Join the community to receive launch updates.

Community Standards

This community exists to support people on the worst week of their year. It will be actively managed and held to a clear standard. Short version: be useful, be kind, and protect people's privacy.

What we expect

  • Respect missing-pet families and the pressure they are under
  • Keep discussions constructive and practical
  • Protect confidential recovery information
  • Follow all safety instructions given by KC Pet Search & Rescue
  • Share accurate information and correct it when it changes
  • Ask before assuming a search wants extra help

What is not allowed

  • Shaming or blaming owners for a pet getting out
  • Posting private addresses or sensitive personal details
  • Interfering with an active recovery plan
  • Chasing or approaching a fearful dog unless specifically directed to
  • Entering private property without permission
  • Presenting yourself as an authorized KC Pet Search & Rescue field member without approval
  • Harassment, scams, spam, or exploitation of vulnerable pet owners

These are expectations, not a legal agreement. Anyone who works against a family in the middle of a search will simply be removed from the community.

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.

This form adds you to the KC Pet Search & Rescue Community interest list. It is not an emergency form. If your pet is missing right now, call 913-915-2800 or use the emergency cat or emergency dog recovery form instead.

Help Us Build What Comes Next

KC Pet Search & Rescue has walked families through some of the most stressful moments of their lives. Now we are building a community that can help us reach more families, tell more recovery stories, and bring more missing pets home.

The metro is big. One team cannot cover it alone. A community can.
